Coming Clean - short story

David had just noticed a few more men standing just outside the parlor where the man in the blue shirt had exited. They were all looking at him. Alphonse noticed David’s look, and gave David a slight grin, and a slight shake of his head. David pulled out his wallet and took out the money. He moved to hand it to Alphonse, but Alphonse shook his head, and waved him and Nadine out of the room.

The small man came up to them and handed them a small bag of brown powder, and wordlessly took David’s money. David and Nadine hurried out, and quickly got into the car.

“Hurry, baby,” Nadine said, teeth grinding.

David looks at the house as he drives away, and makes his way back to the apartment as quickly as he can.

Once at the apartment, Nadine hurries inside and says, “I’m fucking first.”

“Fine,” David says. He’s not feeling well. “I’m going to the bathroom.” Nadine is already squeezing lemon juice into the spoon by the time he makes it to the bathroom door. His stomach started to cramp, and he hurried in, took down his pants and sat on the toilet. The heroin had bound up his intestines, so he’d be there a while.
