Letters to my Senators

Senator Lott, (also sent to Senator Cochran)

The recent effort in the senate to block the RESTORE act and then compromise with the President regarding terms to be included in the new proposal, including immunity grants for telecommunications companies involved in the questionable eavesdropping practices authorized by the President, are nothing short of despicable.

With Congress and the FCC refusing to investigate this matter, the government has left the investigation of these questionable practices to citizen advocacy groups and the courts. An immunity grant would halt these efforts, and effectively remove any recourse the American people have in determining whether these questionable practices were indeed illegal, and if so, holding the parties responsible.

Our government, especially the Legislative branch, regardless of party, have capitulated to the demands and wishes of the Executive with seemingly no regard for the interests of the people they represent, or even our Constitution in many cases. It seems our separate but equal divisions have weakened, and this is a very dangerous trend. No threat is greater to our country than the abandonment of our own values and the provisions set forth in our Constitution. Please do what you can to help restore my, and the rest of the majority of Americans’ faith that our Constitution still is the guiding force of our government, and not party affiliation.

I urge you to consider breaking with your party to support Sen. Dodd in his hold on the latest FISA bill, and allow the proper and appropriate investigations to occur, in the least.

I expect much less, but I hope for your support. Give me a reason, please, to vote for you in the next election.

Sincerely,
Joseph Cardella
